BIOL 622 - Advanced Molecular Techniques Units: 3 A laboratory course covering the theory, practice and application of advanced techniques in molecular biology through guided research projects and discussions of the primary literature. Techniques include current methods in recombinant DNA construction, nucleic acid isolation and gene expression analysis. Lecture Units: 1; Lab Units: 2.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: BIOL 424. Prerequisites: BIOL 415 or BIOL 427. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Independently perform a variety of standard molecular techniques involving recombinant DNA technology.
- Effectively use a variety of sequence analysis tools essential to the molecular biologist.
- Explain the theory behind a wide variety of standard molecular techniques through discussions of the primary literature.
- Critically evaluate successful molecular experiments and effectively troubleshoot unsuccessful ones.
- Effectively communicate results and conclusions in both written and oral format.
