BIOL 601A - Foundations of Scientific Research Units: 1 BIOL 601A aims to provide practical training in skills that are essential for conducting and presenting research including but not limited to accessing/evaluating/citing the scientific literature, creating compelling graphics, maintaining an organized lab notebook and delivering effective presentations.
Prerequisites: M.S. Biological Science major. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Access, organize, annotate and cite relevant research materials, effectively.
- Critically evaluate literature relevant to a selected research question.
- Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles and practices of quantitative research methods, including formulating a testable hypothesis and experimental design.
- Maintain a well-organized digital lab notebook.
- Create compelling graphics including data visualization.
- Create and deliver effective presentations with a specific audience in mind.
