ART 348A - Studio Lighting and Product Photography Units: 3 Studio strobes, basic lighting principles, and the use of digital cameras and view cameras in the creation of commercial-quality product photography for print and the web. Field trips may be required.
Prerequisites: Art 101. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of visual forms and their aesthetic functions, color theory, basic design, and their application in product photography;
- Demonstrate proficiency with studio strobes, lighting principles and the use of digital and view cameras along with studio techniques such as tethered capture, asset management and keyword practices;
- Create a studio still life product shot and create a soft edge alpha channel selection suitable for catalog and web reproduction;
- Create a highly stylized, conceptual photograph of a product;
- Create and compose a conceptual photographic composite using newly created studio photographs to illustrate a thought, concept or idea;
- Demonstrate proficiency in exposure control and advanced lighting applications;
- Schedule, coordinate and participate in photographing a large product, large set shoot in a group or team environment;
- Demonstrate proficiency in creating an estimate and invoice for a commercial photography assignment;
- Identify current trends in studio based commercial advertising, people and fine art photography.
