ART 355 - Game Design II Units: 3 Combining game design art, concepts, methods and authoring tools to create a variety of games. Students create art, use mechanics, build prototypes, design, and user test original games, individually and in teams using a range of authoring tools.
Prerequisites: ART 255 and 259. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Ideate, storyboard, schedule, budget, write a proposal for, and pitch an original computer game project;
2. Create and optimize 2D, animated, video, and/or audio assets needed for a game project; identify algorithms associated with specific common and original game mechanics and behaviors and assess them for complexity, appropriateness, and feasibility for use in a project;
3. Develop a software development cycle and schedule appropriate for creating, debugging, user testing, and modifying a finished digital game;
4. Code specific game mechanics and behaviors as flexible, reusable modules; Combine code assets and visual and audio assets into a functioning game;
5. Iteratively improve a game in response to bugs and shortcomings in mechanics and balance discovered in user testing;
6. Professionally finish a game with titles, credits, and all assets as a complete, self-contained application.
