ART 420W - Writing about World Art Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C; UWR Close analysis of material and visual culture and supporting texts, examining the dynamics of cultural exchange for one period, culture, or theme. Includes close reading, critical thinking, evidence-based writing, and intensive research.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Completion of lower division Area C requirements. Prerequisites: Upper-division standing, satisfaction of second composition and completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 6 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of key research methodologies for writing about world art history through comparative and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Analyze objects of material and visual culture using strategies of close observation and appropriate vocabulary.
- Evaluate primary and secondary sources and apply critical and creative thinking to independent research using a multi-draft process.
- Apply comprehension of the diversity and integration of geographical and historical culture to writing about world art.
- Collaborate with peers to address the multiple contexts of art globally.
