NURS 417 - Community Engagement III Units: 1 Seminar focused on delivering culturally inclusive, community based healthcare and on disparities in health outcomes for families and children. Includes both in-class sessions and field experiences in schools or community health facilities serving women, children and families. Note: The Diversity Overlay requirement is satisfied upon completion of the four-course series, NURS 317, NURS 327, NURS 417 and NURS 427.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and NURS 327. Co-requisites: All of: NURS 410, NURS 411, NURS 412, NURS 413. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Use concepts of community engagement and culturally inclusive, community based healthcare outcomes in their field experiences with women, children and families
- Design and implement strategies to promote health for women, children and families in the community
- Critically reflect on and discuss issues contributing to disparities in healthcare outcomes for women, children and families in the community.
- Analyze community field experiences using reflection and critical thinking
- Implement evidenced-based practices and participate in community assessments with an emphasis on healthcare resources, services and barriers for women, children and families.
