NURS 411 - Maternal Newborn Nursing Practice Units: 2 This course applies concepts related to the care of antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal and neonatal patients and families. The focus is application of knowledge, skills, and attitudes for evidence-based maternity nursing practice.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: HDEV 380, NURS 320, NURS 321, NURS 322, NURS 323, NURS 326, NURS 327. Co-requisites: NURS 410. Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.
Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate the ability to establish therapeutic communication and relationships with maternity patients and their families.
- Formulate patient-centered plans of care to address the needs of childbearing families.
- Incorporate patient preferences, health beliefs, and personal values and resources into their plan of care.
- Utilize the critical components of maternity nursing to provide care to childbearing families.
- Formulate, implement and evaluate a plan of care for postpartum families.
- Implement appropriate standards and evidence based practice guidelines in the care of childbearing families.
- Assess the physiological and psychosocial adaptation and social and cultural influences impacting childbearing families.
- Implement strategies to promote and improve maternal newborn health.
- Communicate and collaborate with interprofessional team members to provide care
