NURS 410 - Maternity Nursing Units: 2 This course examines concepts related to the care of antepartal, intrapartal, postpartal and neonatal patients and families. The focus is developing knowledge, skills, and attitudes for evidence-based maternity nursing.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: HDEV 380, NURS 320, NURS 321, NURS 322, NURS 323, NURS 326, NURS 327. Co-requisites: NURS 411. Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.
Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Explain the role of generalist nurses and maternity nurses to assess and promote the maternal newborn health of patients and families.
- Understand the physiological and psychosocial adaptation and social and cultural influences impacting adaptation of childbearing families.
- Describe strategies to promote maternal newborn health.
- Analyze standards of care and evidence based practice guidelines in maternity nursing.
- Examine current trends, issues and outcomes in maternity care.
- Value patients’ and families’ perspectives of their maternal and newborn health and their participation in establishing and maintaining their health
