SOC 410 - Child Welfare Policy Units: 4 A broad history of the practices and institutions through which we raise our children. The U.S. “child welfare system” is described, including the problems it addresses, the means of addressing them, and the system’s successes and failures.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate oral and written ability to effectively communicate and engage in educated, open-minded discussions of diverse sociocultural beliefs, perspectives, and norms.
- Students will be exposed to the role of race and class in the child welfare system, and to the impact of social inequality on child welfare.
