NURS 301 - Nutrition and Medical Nutrition Therapy Units: 3 Introduction to the sources and functions of nutrients, health disorders caused by lack or excess of nutrients, and nutritional needs across the lifecycle. Concepts of medical nutrition therapy and the basics of nutritional assessment will be introduced.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Define basic terms used in nutrition.
- Discuss the role of nutrition in wellness, disease prevention, and disease management.
- Explain how nutritional needs change throughout the lifecycle.
- Describe practical tools for use in assessing nutritional adequacy of one’s diet.
- Discuss medical nutrition therapy and its role in the prevention and treatment of medical conditions.
- Identify the members of multi-disciplinary health care teams involved in the identification and management of a client’s nutritional needs.
