ANTH 431 - Advanced Anthropological Theory Units: 3 Seminar in history and philosophy of anthropological thought: its place among the sciences and the humanities, schools of thought and the respective contributions of eminent anthropologists.
Prerequisites: Senior Standing. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- identify, summarize, and sequence the basic schools of anthropological thought;
- discuss the major theoretical developments in anthropology since its inception as a discipline in the late nineteenth century to the present day;
- compare American anthropology with British and French anthropology;
- discuss the role of anthropological theory in social research.
