Application of anthropological theory and methods to selected contemporary problems, including public health issues and policy, education, families, community development. Service learning activity at a local community organization.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

define and explain essential terms in applied anthropology;
apply the insights and methods of anthropology to real-world situations;
explain how “academic” anthropology and applied anthropology relate to one another;
discuss ethical considerations in applied work;
analyze the role of non-profit organizations in US culture and in the international context.
