NURS 499 - RN Capstone Project


Units: 3
Development, implementation, and evaluation of a project in the healthcare setting or community. Student projects may focus on education, leadership, management and/or evidence-based practice.

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing: Post-Licensure Concentration major and NURS 361 and NURS 422.
Co-requisites: NURS 450.
Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Develop a project proposal that meets a nursing need in a healthcare setting or in the community. 
  2. Utilize critical thinking skills to identify health systems problems and suggest cost-effective and client-centered solutions based on evidenced-based practice protocols or research findings.
  3. Utilize effective communication processes in order to coordinate, plan, and/or implement and evaluate the project.
  4. Analyze the organizational culture of a selected agency as it affects the project. 
  5. Demonstrate academic writing utilizing evidence-based practices to support the project.
  6. Demonstrate effective multimedia presentation skills. 
  7. Demonstrate competence in selected leadership and management skills in the process of planning and implementing the project
