NURS 494 - Essentials of Critical Care Nursing Units: 2 Medical and nursing management of adult patients with multiple, complex medical and surgical diagnoses in various types of critical care units.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major, and either NURS 360 or both NURS 420 and NURS 421. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify patient care priorities for those who are experiencing acute, life-threatening health problems.
- Correlate pathophysiology, physical exam findings, diagnostics and monitoring data and their indications for treatments.
- Discuss evidenced-based nursing care for common physiologic support modalities such as ventilators, hemodynamic measures, intracranial monitoring, and hemofiltration therapy.
- Integrate critical thinking skills into clinical-decision making for patients with life-threatening conditions.
- Utilize the principles of advocacy to support and promote quality health care for patients and families.
