BAN 449 - Big Data Technology and Business Applications


Units: 3
Introduces Big Data concepts, technologies, systems, and applications. Topics include Hadoop distributed file system, input/output, and business application development with big data. Discuss how companies leverage technologies to analyze Big Data.

Prerequisites: BAN 315 or ITM 330
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online Asynchronous or Online Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
identify appropriate quantitative tools and methods to solve business problems;

  1. identify appropriate technology tools to solve business problems;
  2. use data analytics models in making effective business decisions;
  3. employ technology to analyze data and to aid decision-making;
  4. apply analytical skills to evaluate sustainability issues within a business environment and identify areas for improvement;
  5. apply analytic skills to evaluate diversity, social justice, and equality performance within a business environment and identify the areas for improvement.
  6. Analyze technical components of big data technologies such as distributed computing.
  7. Apply advanced applications and technologies for effective data processing and analysis.
  8. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills for manipulating, storing, and analyzing Big Data in a project setting.
