SLHS 613 - Speech Science


Units: 2
Instrumental assessment and quantitative analysis of respiratory, phonatory, articulatory, and resonance variables. Use of normative data to determine the presence of speech or voice disorders or differences. Application of these skills to specific clinical cases.

Prerequisites: PHYS 304, SLHS 303.
Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid.
Grading: ABC/NC grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Collaborate and communicate with colleagues in homework and group activities to describe, carry out, and demonstrate quantitative measures for the screening and assessment of disorders of respiration, phonation, articulation, and resonance.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the nature of speech, voice, and resonance disorders and differences as they pertain to quantitative measures.
3. Collaborate and communicate with colleagues in group activities to think creatively and critically in applying speech science methods clinical cases.
4. Demonstrate critical thinking for the types and appropriateness of quantitative measures in the evaluation and treatment of speech, voice, and resonance disorders.
