MUS 485 - Sound Design I: Sampling, Editing, and Mixing Units: 3 This course builds on skills introduced in MUS 280 (Essentials of Music Technology) to advanced students interested in music production through sampling programming. Advanced audio recording techniques, sample editing, and audio processing tools will be covered.
Prerequisites: MUS 381. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Understand Sound Design as both an artistic and technical process, and know the artistic and technical vocabulary with which a Sound Designer communicates.
- Examine the principles and techniques associated with sampling and samplers, including recording, editing, and programming
- Create fully functional sampler programs with their own source material
- Create an audio project based on the use of sampling and samplers
