MUS 108 - The Language of Music Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-C1 An introduction to the materials and structure of Western tonal art music, including notation, pitch, rhythm, meter, scales and keys, intervals, chords, harmonic progressions and voice-leading, and form.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Communicate in some basic technical aspects of the art;
- Demonstrate the value of theory and listening as a form of self expression;
- Identify the importance of design and form in music;
- Increase student’s listening ability and sensitivity to various musical styles
