MGMT 670 - Strategic Industry and Competitive Analysis


Units: 3
Key concepts, tools, and principles of industry analysis, competitive analysis, and strategy formulation. Students learn to understand industry structure, develop competitive strategies, define firm boundaries, allocate critical resources, and position firms for value creation and capture.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Analyze the structural features of an industry and develop strategies that position the firm most favorably in relation to competition and industry structure.
  2. Develop skills for the formulation and analysis of firm strategy to address business challenges and opportunities, including innovation, global competition, and sustainability.
  3. Establish an understanding and working knowledge of industry structure, competitive strategy, firm boundaries, resource allocation, and firm value creation and capture.
