NURS 604 - Epidemiology of Population Health and Social Disparities


Units: 3
Applies concepts of epidemiology, social determinants of health, cultural inclusivity and the analysis of population data to design equitable health care services for diverse populations. Strategies to promote health, prevent illness, and reduce health disparities are explored.

Prerequisites: M.S.N. major.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Integrate principles of ecological and social determinants of health in the design and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention programs.
  2. Examine epidemiologic data and utilize these data to design health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
  3. Analyze current trends in health and wellness status and chronic disease distribution in populations and aggregates, locally, nationally and globally.
  4. Evaluate effectiveness of current health promotion and disease prevention strategies for reduction of health disparities, using population data and epidemiological principles.
  5. Design equitable culturally inclusive clinical prevention and health promotion strategies for individuals, families, populations and aggregates.
  6. Analyze emerging global health issues as related to design and delivery of health promotion and prevention strategies and systems.
  7. Outline equitable health policy for health promotion, clinical disease prevention and population health.
