PHIL 313 - Philosophy of Business and Professional Ethics


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C; Social Justice
Explores value systems and ethical issues related to business, professional, and commercial activity. Topics may include organizational culture, ethical leadership, diversity, environmental regulation vs. property rights, truthfulness in business communications, and corporate social responsibility.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online Asynchronous or Online Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. demonstrate an understanding of economic systems, practices, and policies including their implication on society as well as moral behavior and justice;
  2. analyze the cultural history of economic systems, moral systems and their interaction;
  3. demonstrate how we can influence these practices and policies through our actions as individuals as well as through coordinated action.

  1. demonstrate an understanding of and ability to apply the principles, methodologies, value systems, and thought processes employed in the arts and humanities;
