THEA 323 - Shakespeare on Film Units: 3 Modern interpretations of Shakespeare’s plays in the film medium. Critical analysis and interrogation of these works as they apply to contemporary socio-cultural concerns.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain the metaphor, symbolism, and meaning in a Shakespearean soliloquy in the context of the play and surrounding scenes
- Think and write critically about filmed versions of Shakespeare’s works.
- Apply sociocultural and political aspects of Shakespeare’s works, as adapted on film to contemporary issues and debates
- Quote Shakespeare dramatically in public presentations.
