GEOG 336 - Asian Americans: Multiculturalism and Spatial Disparity

Ethnic diversity and settlement patterns of Asian communities in California and the United States; immigration history and demographic changes of major Asian ethnic groups; socio-economic profiles, cultural identities, and contemporary issues of Asian Americans.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.

Describe the changing definition and identity of Asian Americans since the California Gold Rush.
Articulate the spatial disparity and socio-economic diversity of Asian Americans.
Demonstrate knowledge of the role of early Asian immigration in the development of the American West
Articulate the characteristics of different Asian neighborhoods and their locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
