Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - articulate their own ideas and interpretations about different genres of literature;
- explain the elements of fiction, poetry, and drama;
- listen carefully to and respect the ideas and interpretations of others;
- write clear thesis-driven essays about the different genres of literature, demonstrating analytical and persuasive skills;
- revise and improve their writing in both form and content;
- Appreciate the origins and development of American films;
- Use film terminology to discuss and analyzing a diverse range of American films;
- Write critically and clearly about American films;
- Connect innovations, themes, portrayals, and stories within American films to the life experience of themselves and/or others.
C2. Humanities Learning Outcomes - Show appreciation for the humanities using their intellect, imagination, sensibility, and sensitivity;
- develop their affective and cognitive faculties through studying great works reflecting the rich diversity of human imagination and/or inquiry; and
- engage in critical self-reflection relating themes in the humanities to the students’ own lives.
