Contrapuntal procedures from the High Renaissance and its impact on modern use of modal melodic writing in contemporary non-classical music styles.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Develop skills in the composition and analysis of 16th & early 17th century modal polyphonic music
  2. Mastery and understanding of the principles of modal counterpoint
  3. Develop historical and technical insight into modal melodic writing
  4. Demonstrate skill in combining musical lines
