HOS 498 - Internship Units: 6 Over a minimum of 10 weeks, complete a 400-hour recreation internship under the supervision of a professional in the field. Develop a capstone project that demonstrates knowledge learned throughout the program. Must complete all but 2 major, concentration, or elective courses prior to enrolling. Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to enroll.
Prerequisites: HOS 475 and Department consent. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - To provide the student with a practical work experience in a recognized organization offering hospitality and/or tourism services to prepare the students to do the following: Demonstrate the academic experience to the practices of professional service.
- Analyze the role of full-time professional hospitality workers including their competencies, responsibilities, functions and techniques.
- Develop professional identity and the concept of self as a professional worker in being accepted as a contributing member of an organization staff.
- Analyze personal strengths and weaknesses.
- Participate in activities that promote professional growth.
- Summarize responsibilities that are consistent with the student’s capabilities and are comparable to those accepted in the profession.
- Analyze the relationship of the internship position to the total organization operation.
