SLHS 611 - Aural Rehabilitation Units: 2 Advanced study of best practices in audiological rehabilitation including issues faced by clinicians when providing aural rehabilitation services across different clinical settings. Emphasis on forming aural rehabilitation groups and training communication strategies. Guided experience in facilitating group audiological rehabilitation.
Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. Speech-Language Pathology program. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify and explain principles and practices of research, including experimental design, evidence-based practice, statistical methods, and application to clinical populations.
- Know more about the speech and language characteristics across the life span associated with hearing impairment.
- Become aware of manual and other communication systems, skilled use of sign language interpreters, and assistive technology to facilitate communicative access.
- Screen individuals for hearing impairment and activity limitation or participation restriction, using clinically appropriate and culturally sensitive screening measures.
- Discuss objectively the ramifications of cultural diversity on professional practice in speech-language pathology and audiology.
