SLHS 407 - Clinical Methods and Diagnostics


Units: 3
Basic principles of client assessment, treatment and management, including designing therapy hierarchies, collecting data, working with families, reinforcing correct behavior and documenting outcomes.

Prerequisites: SLHS 301, SLHS 302, SLHS 304, SLHS 305, SLHS 402, SLHS 403, SLHS 404, senior standing, and declared major in B.S. Speech Pathology and Audiology, or admitted graduate student.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Discuss professional conduct required of a SLP and the ASHA code of ethics.
  2. Critically evaluate and interpret components of  standardized and non standardized client screening and assessment
  3. Develop appropriate assessment and treatment plans, including Terminal Objectives and Short Term Goals
  4. Discuss and demonstrate various clinical approaches and procedures, based on scientific evidence and clinical judgment
  5. Record and analyze  client performance
  6. Develop professional-level assessment and clinical progress reports. 
  7. Demonstrate understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity related to the assessment and intervention processes.
  8. Demonstrate skills in professional conduct, collaboration and advocacy.
