STAT 651 - Data Visualization


Units: 2
Methods used for data visualization and interactive exploration of Big Data.  Topics include interactive maps, elements of visual perception, effective graphs and charts, and meaningful visual representations of complex statistics and large data sets.  Report writing.

Prerequisites: One of: STAT 600 - STAT 699.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Use software to visualize data, R, tableau, Google Sheets.
  2. Critically evaluate visualizations for bias.
  3. Extract data from large data source to create meaningful visualizations.
  4. Create reports and stories including visualizations.
