ENGL 353 - Linguistic History of the English Language


Units: 4
A linguistic approach to the origin and development of English, and its relations to cognate languages.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1.  Students will demonstrate knowledge of characteristic features of the historical stages of the English language.
  2.  Students will demonstrate knowledge of the relationship of the English language to other members of the Indo-European language family.
  3.  Students will demonstrate knowledge of the technical vocabulary of and the informational resources available for etymological study.
  4.  Students will demonstrate their ability to write critically on topics of importance to English language history.
