COMM 312 - Media History and Social Justice Units: 4 Examines the history, organization, social role, and function of media, including news media, and explores their potential to help bring about social change for justice and equity.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Define social justice and relevant concepts such as objectivity, agenda setting, framing and priming as they relate to the media’s role in social issues
- Explain important developments in the history of news media as it relates to social justice issues such as poverty, race, health care, and the environment
- Demonstrate an understanding of media literacy and its relevance to social justice
- Analyze and critique media examples in the context of concepts related to social justice and media literacy
- Create an op-ed-style media critique (written, video, or audio) or original reporting project that explains power and social inequality within the context of ideas and concepts discussed in the course.
