STAT 303 - Statistical Methods in Biology


Units: 3
Basic probability and statistical concepts. Introduction to the analysis of variance, correlation, and simple linear regression. Nonparametric techniques with application to biology. Use of computer packages. Lecture Units: 2; Lab Units: 1.

Prerequisites: Completion of GE area B4.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. apply basic computational skill
  2. communicate statistical results to others
  3. analyze data using appropriate statistical software and to interpret results.
  4. The Activity component of the course has the following student learning outcomes: This component of the course provides an introduction to the life sciences student to be able to: select and use appropriate statistical software, communicate statistical results to others all in respect to descriptive statistics, graphical displays, hypothesis testing and estimation, modeling and error analysis.
