STAT 310 - Statistical Methods in the Social Sciences


Units: 3
Standard scores, t-scores, the normal distribution and its uses, hypothesis testing and estimation for means, paired comparisons, independent means, and analysis of variance. Linear regression and correlation. Uses of chi-squared. Introduction to design of experiments. Use of computer packages. Lecture Units: 2; Activity Units: 1.

Prerequisites: STAT 100.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. The Lecture component of this course has the following student learning outcomes: apply basic computational skill
  2. communicate statistical results to others
  3. analyze data using appropriate statistical software and to interpret results.

The Activity component of the course has the following student learning outcomes: select and use appropriate statistical software, communicate statistical results to others all in respect to descriptive statistics, graphical displays, hypothesis testing and estimation, modeling and error analysis.
