MATH 120 - Precalculus

This course covers trigonometric, polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs, including end behavior. Also included are trigonometric equations, the unit circle, right triangle trigonometry, and basic identities.

Prerequisites: Satisfactory score of 63 or higher on Mathematics Placement Exam or MATH 115E with grade C- or better.
Credit Restrictions: Not open to students with credit for MATH 125.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: ABC/NC grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental idea of a mathematical function and its properties.  
2. Students will solve and explain solutions to problems involving polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and linear systems.
3. Students will apply the ideas of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions to solving and modeling real world problems and linear systems.

1. Demonstrate a proficient and fluent ability to reason quantitatively;
2. demonstrate a general understanding of how practitioners and scholars collect and analyze data, build mathematical models, and/or solve quantitative problems; and
3. apply quantitative reasoning skills in a variety of real-world contexts, defined by personal, civic, and/or professional responsibilities.
