SW 695C - Social Work Practicum III

1. Consistently apply social work values and ethics to their practice with children and families or community mental health; (PLO: Values and Ethics).
2. Demonstrate the professional use of self in practice focused on children, youth and families or community mental health through evaluation of one’s own practice and identify needed areas of growth (PLO: Professional Use of Self).
3. Critically analyze and apply the ecological framework and a strength-based perspective, integrated with bio-psychosocial and cultural theories, and a recovery model orientation to practice with individuals and families in the context of communities (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
4. Use critical thinking skills and theory synthesis to determine best practice interventions for work with individuals in CYF or CMH populations (PLOs: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice; Diversity).
5. Understand the impact of discrimination and oppression and begin to gain the skills needed to work for the advancement of social and economic justice, as particularly relevant to urban, disenfranchised individuals and families (PLOs: Critical thinking/Applying Theory to Practice; Advocacy; Diversity).
6. Demonstrate knowledge of significant issues involved with diverse CYF or CMH populations such as child abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, dual diagnosis and learn appropriate interventions for prevention and resolution (PLOs: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice; Advocacy; Diversity; Communication).
7. Demonstrate and implement specialized knowledge and skills in relation to CYF or CMH assessment, intervention, and planning such as interviewing, engagement, cultural sensitivity, home visiting, documentation and advocacy (PLOs: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice; Communication; diversity).
8. Strengthen families and promote wellness through family centered work in a community context utilizing various theoretical frameworks such as the psychodynamic, existential-humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and psychosocial schools; and intervention models such as crisis intervention, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
9. Understand the importance of self-care as it relates to professional development and sound social work practices (PLO: Professional Use of Self).
10. Understand the licensure process in the state of California, how to register to begin the accrual of hours and how to utilize supervision to improve clinical skills (PLOs: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice; Professional Use of Self).
