ENGL 602 - Graduate Workshop in Fiction Units: 4 Writing of long and short fiction. Theory and analysis of the art of fiction. For the prospective professional writer.
Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - A better writer through the practice of her/his craft and sustained criticism incorporated into her/his work in revision.
- A more attentive reader of fiction through in-depth analysis of both student work and published work by professional writers.
- Conversant with contemporary literary trends through exposure to recent fiction in all its variegated forms.
- Able to critique in depth a work-in-progress (a manuscript in draft) through close examination of student work with the goal of offering pointed criticism for revision.
- Closer to publication through familiarity with appropriate magazines and markets discussed in class, and refinement gained in class.
- Possessed of a realistic sense of the maturity, strength and overall level of her/his artistic/literary ability at this time.
