ECON 306 - Money, Banking, & Financial Intermediaries Units: 3 Essentials of commercial and central banking; financial intermediaries; monetary policy.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Understand the importance of the financial sector in promoting savings and directing their use;
- Distinguish between money and other forms of wealth, and their sources;
- Explain the determinants of the level and term structure of interest rates;
- Explain the likely path of interest rates, following a change in monetary policy;
- Understand the various money and capital market instruments.
