BIOL 601B - Foundations of Scientific Communication Units: 1 This course will focus on the format and conventions of scientific communication in various contexts. The emphasis will be on the iterative process of creating, revising and refining a thesis proposal aided by the critical evaluation of peer writing samples.
Prerequisites: BIOL 601A. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the format and conventions of scientific communication in a variety of scholarly contexts, including the research proposal, thesis, peer-reviewed publications, and scholarly presentations (posters, talks).
- Effectively communicate scientific information including research summaries, and evidence-based conclusions in written, oral, and visual/graphical formats.
- Complete a first draft of the thesis proposal to be delivered to the thesis advisor.
