CHEM 641 - Graduate Biochemistry Units: 3 Review of biochemical fundamentals, followed by in-depth coverage of selected topics such as enzyme mechanisms, signaling, membrane function, photosynthesis, advanced metabolism, and DNA repair.
Prerequisites: CHEM 442 with grade C- or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate strong knowledge of biochemical fundamentals.
- Identify the chemical principles underlying enzyme mechanisms.
- Critically evaluate the role of redox chemistry, energy transfer, and bond formation in biochemical processes such as photosynthesis.
- Compare and contrast the mechanisms of selected anabolic and catabolic pathways and their regulation.
- Categorize and distinguish several types of DNA repair mechanisms.
