SOC 415 - Popular Culture Units: 4 An analysis of the historical development of modern popular culture through its interaction with both elite and commercial cultures. Various examples from contemporary popular culture (for example: popular music, television, movies) will be examined in detail.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Grasp the social meaning and significance of examples of contemporary popular culture (SLO1; Maps to PLO1)
- Comprehend the critical depiction of class, race and gender in the best of popular culture, for example The Wire or Mad Men.(SLO3; Maps to PLO3)
- Read and comprehend sociological theories of popular culture, commercial culture and the role of fans in the creation of popular culture. (SLO6; Maps to PLO6)
