Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Students will be able to effectively communicate and engage in educated, open-minded discussions about sociological aspects of important political issues and divisions.
- Students will learn sociological perspectives and research on the distribution of political power, and the role the state and political power in shaping social inequalities and opportunities.
- Students will learn the value and effectiveness of civic and political engagement.
- Students will be able to critically read and interpret sociological theories of the state, civil society, political power, and linkages between politics and other social institutions.

- describe the challenges to achieving social justice; and
