Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Students will be able to effectively communicate and engage in educated, open-minded discussions about sociological aspects of important political issues and divisions.
Students will learn sociological perspectives and research on the distribution of political power, and the role the state and political power in shaping social inequalities and opportunities.
Students will learn the value and effectiveness of civic and political engagement.
Students will be able to critically read and interpret sociological theories of the state, civil society, political power, and linkages between politics and other social institutions.
