Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation MS CSET Waiver Certificate Program

This Certificate is for students who wish to seek a waiver of the CSET for the Multiple Subject Matter requirement. Students who plan to teach in a public school in California for K-6 and need a CSET Waiver program for the purpose of applying for the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential programs in California should major in Liberal Studies with the Teacher Preparation Concentration, plus this certificate. Completion of both programs will provide a waiver for the Multiple Subject CSET requirement, which is a prerequisite for the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential programs in California.

Certificate Requirements

This Certificate requires 20-27 units to complete.

Note: BPEP students completing this certificate are required to complete an additional course: TED 571 for one (1) unit.

Take all of the following 14 units:
MATH 402 - Mathematics for K-8 Educators I Units: 4
MATH 403 - Mathematics for K-8 Educators II Units: 4
MUS 302 - What to Listen for in Music Units: 3 ; G.E./G.R. Area: C4
STAT 100 - Elements of Statistics and Probability Units: 3 ; G.E./G.R. Area: B4
Complete two (2) of the following courses for 6 units that are not completed in the Teacher Preparation Concentration:
CHEM 100 - Introduction to College Chemistry Units: 3 ; G.E./G.R. Area: B1, B3
GEOL 100 - Earth Systems Science Units: 4 ; G.E./G.R. Area: B1, B3; Sustainability
PHYS 115 - Elementary Physics Units: 3 ; G.E./G.R. Area: B1, B3
Students in BPEP must also take the following course for 1 unit:
TED 571 - Multiple Subject Fieldwork Seminar II Units: 1
Prior K-6 Classroom Teaching Experience Requirements (0-6 units) Complete either A or B:

A: Prior experience certification form signed by a teacher or principal verifying experience in a K-6 classroom (minimum 45 hours, 15 hours of which must be in a public school)

B: Complete the following two (2) courses (6 units):
TED 301 - Introduction to Education Units: 3
TED 302 - Introduction to Teaching Units: 3
