STAT 100E - Elements of Statistics and Probability with Extra Support


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-2
Descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency, dispersion, correlation), elementary discrete probability distributions. Introduction to tests of statistical hypotheses. Use of computers. This course includes a 1 unit lab/activity component. Lecture 3 units, Lab 1 unit.

Credit Restrictions: Not open to students with credit for STAT 110 or STAT 303

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Know formal statistical concepts and formulae, and find sources for key statistical ideas;
  2. manipulate and use theories; graphically display and interpret results, and perform basic statistical computations;
  3. apply statistical theory at an elementary level, identify problems, evaluate and discuss statistical measures and results.
  4. Operate and solve algebraic expressions
  5. Model and draw conclusions from data using critical thinking

  1. Demonstrate a proficient and fluent ability to reason quantitatively.
  2. Demonstrate a general understanding of how practitioners and scholars collect and analyze data, build mathematical models, and/or solve quantitative problems.
