MATH 315 - Mathematical Concepts for K-5 Teachers


Units: 3
Addresses mathematical content relevant for elementary teachers in grades K-5 focusing on deep understanding of familiar topics and applications in context. Topics addressed include the real number system, fractions and rational numbers, geometry and measurement, algebraic reasoning and data visualization.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC. (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Apply definitions and techniques for elementary mathematics topics and describe why and how they work.
  2. Model elementary mathematics topics in context using multiple representations (such as pictorially, graphically, etc.).
  3. Communicate mathematics using precise language and sound inductive and deductive reasoning for a variety of audiences.
