SLHS 691 - Professional Practices Units: 2 Understanding policies, procedures, and state/federal/institutional regulations within various models of service delivery, including transitional care, interprofessional collaboration, and financial models. Understanding licensure, credential, and certification application and maintenance requirements.
Prerequisites: Department consent Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall, Spring, or Summer
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify and discuss the requirements for, and prepare the paperwork for, national certification, state licensure, and credentialing to practice as speech-language pathologists.
- Demonstrate understanding of professional roles, scope of practice, and contemporary issues impacting service delivery across healthcare, education, and private practice settings.
- Apply principles of professional ethics, accountability, and conflict resolution to case examples and clinical scenarios.
- Explain the roles of supervision, the Clinical Fellowship/Required Professional Experience, and collaboration with speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs) in professional practice.
- Discuss strategies for interprofessional teaming, advocacy, and effective communication with diverse stakeholders, including culturally and linguistically diverse clients and families.
- Prepare application materials (e.g., cover letters, resumes) and demonstrate readiness for the professional job search process.
