SLHS 411 - Spanish for SLPs in Medical Settings


Units: 2
Students will acquire knowledge of Spanish terminology, Spanish resources, and cultural considerations for Spanish-speaking populations relevant to speech-language pathology and audiology services in medical settings, with a focus on adults. This course is taught in Spanish.

Prerequisites: SLHS 204, SPAN 341, SPAN 343
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe common communication disorders and challenges in Spanish, including their characteristics and etiologies.
  2. Describe available assessment and treatment options for adult communication and cognitive disorders in Spanish.
  3. Describe how cultural backgrounds of Spanish-speaking individuals may impact clinical decision making and counseling approaches for individuals and their families.
