SLHS 408 - Aural Rehabilitation Units: 2 Study of the issues facing clinicians when providing audiological rehabilitation services in adult clinical settings with guided practical experiences. Emphasis on working in interdisciplinary teams and professional relationships.
Prerequisites:
SLHS 402 Strongly Recommended Preparation: SLHS 303 Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Principles and practices of research, including experimental design, evidence-based practice, statistical methods, and application to clinical populations
- Speech and language characteristics across the life span associated with hearing impairment and appropriate intervention
- Manual and other communication systems, use of interpreters, and assistive technology
- Screen individuals for hearing impairment and activity limitation or participation restriction using clinically appropriate and culturally sensitive screening measures
- Ramifications of cultural diversity on professional practice
- Audiologist and SLP roles and opportunities in the auditory rehabilitation process
