PHIL 243 - Spirituality & Health Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-3B Explores the intersections between religion, spirituality, and health. Topics include cultural values and beliefs toward illness and well-being, the distinction between religion and spirituality, medicine and healing in aboriginal, Chinese, and selected religious traditions, holistic (or mind/body) medicine, and contemporary complementary medical practices.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Read complex texts, and discuss these in thoughtful written dialogue, practicing empathy for the ideas of others;
- demonstrate knowledge of philosophical and/or religious traditions, especially in terms of their approaches and beliefs to health and death care;
- develop their capacities for ethical decision making, specially in the context of health and death care;
- cultivate an appreciation for the diversity of human cultures, especially as this relates to health and death care.
