PHIL 110 - Introduction to Philosophy and the Arts Units: 3 This course will introduce students to basic concepts in philosophy as applied to the arts through the lens of a particular theme, and in relationship with other disciplines.
Credit Restrictions: Not open to students with credit for PHIL 120 or PHIL 130.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall Alternate Years
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Introduction to academic, argumentative writing.
- Introduction to core understandings of art in philosophical or religious traditions, relevant concepts, and historical context.
- Cultivate an openness to the ideas of others and a self-awareness of the strengths and limitations of one’s own aesthetic opinions.
- Learn the basics of analyzing the arguments and interpretations of others and creating original arguments and interpretations of one’s own.
