MLL 151 - Elementary Japanese I: Language and Humanities
Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-3B
The first semester of a one-year sequence. Develops four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing (Hiragana, Katakana and Basic Kanji) in modern Japanese. Emphasis on language acquisition, socially appropriate language use, and cultural understanding.
Breadth Area(s) Satisfied: GE-3B - Humanities
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Accurately pronounce basic Japanese syllables and sentences.
- Construct basic sentence structures.
- Comprehend simple conversation and reading.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of Japanese arts and culture.
- Write and read Hiragana, Katakana and Basic Kanji.
